I'm hungry, let's talk about food

First of all - THANK YOU - to anyone and everyone stopping by to check me out!!
I'm working on making this page a little prettier so hang in there I know it's boring!

What do I want to talk about first?  FOOD.
Let's reverse a little and give you a quick snapshot of my relationship with food.  It'll help you understand my food rants going forward.

I grew up a fat kid.  Obese until about the age of 14, then I started playing volleyball.  Played for a few years, shed some pounds, super awesome.  Then I quit volleyball, got my license, and sadly decided that smoking cigarettes, eating like crap and drinking beer was way more fun than working out.

*4th grade - cute chubby kid huh?

By the time I hit college - morbidly obese.  Stayed this way until I was about 24 yrs old when I decided one day that I needed to stop being fat.  I joined Weight Watchers, went to meetings and started eating better.  Within a year of just changing habits, I lost about 50 lbs.  Lots of other things happened after that - moving states, new job, etc - so the pounds didn't come off much after that.
Fast forward to 2012 where I joined a gym.  I had no plan, no goals, other than losing weight.  Sort of worked out, but not really.

* halfway thru 2013

Bounce ahead again to 2013.  I had set a goal to run a shit load of races and I also started CrossFit (more on all of THAT to come later).  This is also where I picked up eating Primal/Paleo.  I didn't jump on the bandwagon because of CrossFit, but it definitely helped me make my decision.  Weight Watchers didn't fit my lifestyle anymore, I needed to fuel my body more and I didn't like being so hungry ALL THE TIME.
So, by the end of 2013, I hit my goal from the start of Weight Watchers, I had hit 175 lbs body weight!  EUREKA!

*This was taken about 2 weeks ago

And there you have it - an intro to my food obsession.  And some visuals because those are fun and I like pictures.

And now the reason why I wanted to talk about food today ...
In 2014, one of my goals is to cook more adventurously.  What does that mean you ask?  It means I am cooking at minimum, 2 new recipes a month.  I would like to do 1 a week, but sometimes that's just not realistic.
So, last night, I tried a new recipe (Found here ... http://brittanyangell.com/buffalo-chicken-alfredo-with-sweet-potato-pasta-paleo-dairyeggglutengrainnut-free/).
It was beyond amazing.  So, what's the problem you ask?  It didn't feed me enough.  No recipes do and that's an issue.  A frustrating one.  So now I added a new part to my 2014 goal of cooking ... how to make the most out of every recipe AND ideas of how to round them out or add side dishes to what doesn't really need one.

I know there's a lot of people out there who struggle with food as much as me.  Whether you're overweight and trying to lose, if you're where I am and feeling healthy but are missing something ... there's help out there for us all.  And I'll gladly try and find some sort of answer so I'm not so hungry!
Food is going to be a big topic you'll read here because aside from being hungry a lot, I LOVE to cook.  Any comments you leave with recipes for me to try - I will.  Any questions you leave about food, menus, prepping, anything - I will answer as honestly as possible. Feel free to bring anything to me, I am no expert but I love talking especially about stuff I like!

Here's to a new adventure!  Now, it's breakfast time, LET'S EAT!

  1. Hello. Add this to the agenda for Friday. I feed a big boy who rides his bike as a commuting method, so he eats a redic amount. I'm also a pretty great cook. Let's chat. PS this is Diana. /creepy
